Hi all im new and have a problem
ive had my japanese fire bellied newt for a couple of weeks now and to start with he was missing a foot but thought it might grow back.
Since then it's slowly eaten away and another bit has started to appear further up on the leg.
does any body no what is this and how to treat this?

this is not uncommon in newly imported newts particuarly in C. orientalis. The treatement is going to depend on the cause of the condition. If it was due to some trauma that caused the death of the limb then the limb will need to be amputated. The newt should be seen by a vet so the actual cause of the problem can be evaluated (as it can be due to multiple causes).

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
