If the little axolotls are small enough to be food, then no.

If they're around 4 or 5 inches long (or bigger), then it may be acceptable to integrate them into the same tank. I don't recommend keeping any more than 4 or 5 in a 4 foot tank.

Ohh how cute and they seem pretty happy, I agree you should only a smaller axolotls if they are large enough to not be food. But I would integrate them slowly and try introducing them first as well as keeping a check when they are together, just to ensure they do get along and don't nip/ bite each other. 4 or 5 would also be the top you should keep together.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
