his skin has been acting very weird lately, just the past 2 days it was normal, meaning his skin was black and smooth but now theres these two kinda white blotches on the side of his head and hes getting some kinda brown blotches around his body. what could this mean?

He could be too dry, or he could be shedding.

What type of Cynops is he?

Do you have a picture of this? If he is shedding inadequately then it maybe a sign of stress. How is your setup?

hes a chinese fire belly. I've got him in his own 5.5 quarintine tank right now with some water wisteria, and I think he did shed about 4 days ago. I'll post a picture soon.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
