I am having a hard time finding any info on the subject and was wondering if their would be a reliable method for sexing terrestrial adults in the field. I am mostly interested for noting my photos correctly from the field, but may also use this as a popluation ratio study, and if any permitted collecting for lab purposes were to happen, i wouldn't want males to fight... thanks for any help.

The only info i have found is males have slightly longer tails comapred to similar bodied females, and that they are built slimmer... the cloaca is more swollen during breeding but in a population where breeding may occur at any time during spring or fall that doesn't seem as reliable.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
