How long will a Tiger Salamander stay hidden, not eat and not go into it's water ?? I know this is probably a basic question that people get tired of answering but I am new and want to make sure that everything is ok. Ever since the two worms came back out his mouth on Sunday my little Sal has not been the same .

tiger sals rarely go into water unless to breed so don't worry about that. I would be very surprised if he stays on hunger strike for long as they are normally greedy feeders ,give him a couple of days to resettle without trying him with food then try a different type of food like a cricket or two. Once he starts eating again you won't be able to stop him....ian

My one will hide all the time. I dig him up once a week or so to feed him. The other is out almost constantly. Neither go into the water dish for any length of time.

Not eating for two days is not cause for concern. Like Ian said, give him a few days.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
