Hey all. I have a couple 12cm axies and am working to get a couple more. The only size they have avaliable is 5-8cm. What do you all think? I have about a 130 L tank.
The question is not the size of the tank but the different sizes of the axolotls - could the smaller ones be (badly) hurt by the bigger ones? I'd consider it a risk too.
I agree with Ed I would wait. I introduced my axies when the youngest one was large enough not to be mistaken for food. The smaller of the two is a female and interestingly enough she was the aggressor. Nothing major though a wee bit of pushing and thats it.
Tank size is a consideration. In the wild axies are solitary creatures so they need enough room to have space from each other if they want. works out about 18" of tank space per axie.
Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation
Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
