Just noticed today as I was changing the water in my tank that my axie's got a red protrusion on her stomach? what is this? Kinda made me anxious from the moment I saw it. any help? pictures will be provided later.

I've been feeding it live red mosquito larvae....if it weren't for my logic, I'd say that one of the larvae has eaten through it's belly..Oh God

If it's a juvenile, young axolotl, you can usually see their insides until they reach 10=12 cm. Axolotl larvae when they hatch have translucent skins so you can see the food they're eating (wriggling through the top of their heads and in some cases as they digest and it enters their stomach). Their skins thicken (get less tranluscent as they mature/grow). When they're fed baby brineshrimp, which is orange, their stomachs go bright orange.

is there any way it could have damaged its self on something in the tank, I understand your concern and worries, but hopefully we'll find out wahsts ahappening.

My axie just died today. Feeling kinda guilty...if there was something I could've done to save him from this fate. They're illegal in Norway so I don't know when I'll be getting a new one.

Here's a picture of what she looked like after she died.
What's with her belly?

I'm not a vet but if I had to take a guess it looks like your axololt had some kind of body wall failure resulting in one or more organs protruding from the body.

it looked like its belly was split open from the inside. i feel sorry for yoppi :'(

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
