I know where I can collect brine shrimp localy( fresh water ones), but is it safe to feed an axolotl "wild" brine shrimp or is it better to just buy some?

thank you for any advice you may give :D

True brine shrimp require salt water but there are fairy shrimp which are in the same order which are found in freshwater. Usually they are found in empheral water systems like vernal pools. They can be fed to the axolotls but there is a risk of parasites, disease, and predators (like water tigers).

Oh I see, I didn't realize what people meant by fairy shrimp till now :p Thank you for the information :D I think I'll just buy some instead of risking disease.

thanks again

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
