They gobbled up the woodlice greedily

will it do any harm to the newts

Woodlice are fine as a food. If you're collecting them outdoors you need to be sure they're from an area free from pesticides.

crunchy

hmmmm, are woodlice really worth eating? Do they contain any nutrients? I imagine worms contain more, maybe you could dust them with vitamin powder (unless they're underwater of course).
I fed a woodlouse to one of my cynops orientalis,, it ate it then spat it out 5 seconds later, I thought it might have been to hard to digest? i know paddle tails can tackle more challenging prey though, becasue they take fish dont they? anyway, yea, I'm not sure if this is a question or just a reply...

I think paddletails will eat anything remotely resembling food. Woodlice are an ok part of a balanced diet.

I've found that if I feed my critters something they've not eaten in a while, like crickets (I only rarely feed them crickets), they'll spit them out a few times before actually eating them.

I feed woodlice to my newts in the winter sometimes if I run out of other live foods and it's too cold to order more. They're fine for a treat, but I wouldn't use them for a staple diet.

Woodlice are actually a good source of calcium...

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
