Hi everyone, I'm looking forward to getting to know fellow amphibian admirers. I have one axolotl right now (Crusher). I keep him in a 90cm x 30cm tank. We have had Crusher for a couple of months; feeding him live feeder fish (hence his name 'Crusher'), frozen beef heart and brine shrimp. My first question is: Where can I buy parasite free live worms in Perth, Western Australia? Would getting a live worm farm be a good idea to breed my own (my free range chook loves worms too)?

Hi Sharon

Hi. I thought I'd say hello to a fellow Aussie! This is a great site, although I think I may have found it a bit late...a long and sad story, best read in the Dr section.
Anyway, I look forward to future conversations!

Hi Sharon and Anne, welcome to the forum. Yes wormfarms are great and easy to establish. The main thing to remember, especially if using from your own garden/compost is as long as your garden/surrounding neighbours don't use pesticides in their gardens. We have a couple of wormfarms and a compost heap.

thanks for the help kapo

thanks kapo, I'm looking forward to getting lots of advice from to keep my little mate happy!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
