When is breeding season? I did a whole bunch of reading, but nothing was found! Any help is apreciated. I have wanted to know for a while.

Hello there. For what species are you asking? Many of the breeding seasons are in the spring time, but there are some that can be different times in the year. Have you searched around Caudata Culture (http://www.caudata.org/cc/) yet? There are care sheets and descriptions that can help you answer this question.

Good luck!

I searched all over the site and had no luck. I was wondering about paddle tails. I am eager to find out what sex they are.

I currently have a couple of paddle tails and can tell the difference in their sexes. My male is curently showing his breeding dress. Try these articles:

http://www.caudata.org/cc/species/Pachytriton/Pachytriton.shtml

http://www.caudata.org/cc/articles/sexing.shtml

These two areas should give you some information. As I said my male is currently in breeding condition and I have noticed him tail-fanning the female. Successful breeding results are few and far betewwn though. You can always post pictures and we can take a look for you if you are unsure.

Winter/spring for most newts, including paddletails. However, breeding paddletails in captivity is so rare, that I don't think you need to think much about it.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
