Hello everyone. I'm not particularly new to this site, but instead like to troll around and never seem to post. I felt like I should introduce myself and try to become more active.

My name is Drew Davis and I am currently an 3rd year undergraduate at the University of Texas at Austin. Here I am enrolled in the Ecology, Evolution, Behavior program, am currently helping a grad student on the feeding ecology of Eurycea sosorum, and have my own project on morphology of Plethodon albagula. Being in central Texas we are extremely lucky to have such cool Eurycea salamanders and lots of opportunities to work with them. That being said, I work with the City of Austin, conducting monthly E. sosorum salamander surveys, and hope to be posting some pictures of the variation within that species.

As a hobbyist my collection is limited to Ambystoma sp., as well as several Typhlonectes natans caecilians. Lately I have been reading more and more about several species of European newts, and they are really starting to catch my eye.

I look forward to getting to know everyone here.

Drew

Welcome, this is the place to come and learn about newts! This site hooked me up with European newts as well. And there are also some really neat chinese ones... have fun!

Welcome to Caudata.org! :D

Well, troll has a different meaning on message boards than the one you are implying ;) I was a lurker myself before I started posting.

I for one would love to hear about some of your research. It makes me happy to know people are doing ecology research out there on my favorite class of animals.

Hi and welcome

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
