Hi!
I've checked with a couple of pet shops specializing in reptiles and amphibians here in Ontario, Canada, but no one seems to stock axolotls. One retailer told me that since they are protected by CITES, they never see them for sale. I have a hard time with this explanation, since I understand pretty much all the animals available are derived from stock that has been used in lab work - i.e. we're not talking about animals collected from the wild.
Thanks!
