I am seriously considering getting an axie. I was wondering if anyone can tell me how long they can live for because I would really like a pet that while stay with us for a while.
Also I was wondering if anyone can tell me where I can get one in the Beaumont/Houston Texas area?
Thanks for any answers.

Axolotls generally live for 10-15 years if cared for well. Though longer is not unheard of.

You can try posting a "wanted" in the ad section of this forum, and try to find a breeder locally. If you are willing to have them shipped, this page provides some sources:
http://www.ambystoma.org/AGSC/alternative.htm

This is not the best season to look for them. They breed primarily in winter/spring. It will be easier to find them in a few months.

thanks

thank you for all the answers everybody is being so helpful

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
