Hi,
I have 2 little fire-bellied juveniles and from what I've read they don't want to get too cold. At home, their tank is above the fish-tank and that works fine. We're about to go on holiday though and I'm worried that they might get too cold - the friends who are going to look after them don't have a fish-tank (and they don't live near enough to take care of them in our house). Could I get a heat-mat or similar, or will that inevitably make them too hot?
thanks!
Laura

No heatmat required! Newts like it cool. Indoor temperatures are normally at the top end of their temperature range so they really don't need additional heating.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
