Hi my oldest axie seem to have dislocated her right front leg.

At she still moves it and it is a healthy colour but at times its range of movement is different from the other limbs. It doesn't seem to bother her or restrict her movement around the tank.

Has anyone ever relocated and axie leg and if so how so? or is it a job for the vet or in the don't worry about it file.

Interesting. I'm a vet and not sure if I'd try it. Would probably give it a whirl on my own axie. However she could have injured it without dislocating it, and is holding it oddly because of that in which case time may fix anyway and if she's eating and otherwise behaving normally I wouldn't stress. You'd have to move her good leg thru its range of motion and then do the same with the sore one for comparison to know if its dislocated or not, which will obviously involve some stress due to handling, pain etc. Thinks it falls into the "give it a couple of days and see how it goes" bucket. A vet with a special interest in amphibians would be a handy thing.

Thanks Lisa,

It seems to have gotten better have just watched her swimming and it appears to be functioning normally again. So I will watch and wait.

Colours still good so must be still getting blood flow.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
