Hey John, I got a question for you. At a local pet shop which I frequently visit, they carry axolotls, and some Salamandra atra. At first there was alot of both species, but as the weeks past people have come in and bought a bunch of these guys up. My problem with this is that people are probably unaware of how to care for these animals correctly. My question is, would you mine if I somehow got a poster or something to post on one of the shops windows. I talked to the owner and he was all for it. Hopefully people will visit this site before buying and read up on how to care for the species they purchase. Better yet maybe they would wait like me to get something from someone on this site.

To the best of my knowledge, Salamandra atra are illegal to collect. Since most Salamandra sold in petshops in the USA are usually wild-caught, I can only assume that those are too.

As for a poster or whatever, feel free, and thanks for asking.

I am pretty sure they are wild caught, which is another reason to get people to this site. Hopefully people will come to this site to get cb species from someone here.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
