Do toads "sleep"? Like, do they close their eyes and actually sleep like a dog or cat does or do they kinda sleep like a fish, which isn't really sleeping just a vast slow down in activity.

If they do sleep, do they close their eyes? Haha, I ask because sometimes at night one of my toads looks drunk as his eyes are half closed. As a matter of fact he's doing it right now in an amplexus with another toad (must not be too good or exciting :p )

As far as I'm aware they have periods where they sleep but don't ask me to compare it to mammalian sleep - I simply don't know enough about it. Amphibians just seem to "zone out" when they sleep, and they don't seem to shut their eyes completely.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
