Was not prepared at all when wilma (my albino axolotl) started laying eggs!!! Was even more surprised that i had named them correctly Fred being a boy and Wilma a girl!!!

Anyway, eggs have just hatched!a lot sooner than i had anticipated!now having problems with food! My usual shop does not have any daphnia! any other suggestions for food? Otherwise my poor babies will be starved! How long are the little ones likely to survive with out anything?

Baby brineshrimp eggs - you should be able to get a bottle/jar from the petshop and you'll have to hatch them. The following article shows you how to make a homemade hatchery to hatch them: http://www.caudata.org/cc/articles/microfoods.shtml

Axie larvae usually spend the first 2-3 days eating their yolk (the clear stuff) and it appears white in their bellies.

In a dire pinch I was able to use frozen baby brine shrimp. I was able to use this when my baby brine were hatching out. I just use some air stone to move the water a little and lowered the water in the container that the babies were in.

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
