Hi everybody! :D

I'm new here, and my name is Jenni. I am a college student in south Georgia. I'm a Wildlife Management major, and I love my degree program - it's all about nature and the outdoors!

Many years ago when I was young I received two newts as a Christmas present - can't remember what species, though.

I'd like to get another salamander or newt sometime - I have always thought they were so interesting!

How funny - I also go by Jenni - same spelling. Welcome! You've come to the best place for info. Since you are a wildlife major, you'll be interested to know that newts and sals sold in pet shops are virtually all wild-caught. If you decide to have any as pets, consider other sources.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
