they are doing much better. I followed your advice. I let them get used to their area. I have recently put some earth worm bits into their cage. Either the female is eating a lot or she is pregnant. I am not sure I will post some pictures so if any of you know if I should be expecting little ones please let me know.

The first picture is of the male and the second is of the female....

Very cool Ensatina. Where are they from?

Ensatina Questions.

Thank you. They are from Happy Valley Oregon. I was outside gardening when I found them they weren't under shelter or any thing. But I still don't know if the female is pregnant. She is still acting funny. Do you think they will eat spider crickets? And is it weird for them to want to be held?

I'm sure they will anything that's the proper size.

I've had a few Ensatina that displayed that "climbing" behavior. I don't think they want to be held, they're just trying to climb out of the enclosure and your hand looks like a way out.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
