Hello, my name is Zach and I am from Illinois. I have been keeping herps off and on over the years, and recently have focused on caudates. I have been lurking on this site for years and recently decided to finally form an account again. This site has been extremely helpful these last few years when I started keeping newts, and it seems like even more people are on here now than before.

I keep several cynops cyanurus, a few cynops orientalis, and a taricha granulosa right now. Lately I have been gearing up for my first foray in axolotl keeping, and this site and forum have once again proved to be an essential source of info. Thank you.

Hi,
welcome to the site, i think most of us spend hours just browsing the threads about the things i dont have, i know i do.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
