Hello Everyone,

I'm Maggie. I have 2 Japanese Firebellies and just stumbled upon this board. It looks like it's going to be both helpful and fun. This is my second time owning newts. The first time around I was a lot younger and looking back on it poor Ricky was pretty neglected. This time around I am totally devoted to my Newt keeping and am having a ton of fun so far. That's about it. See you guys around the board!

Hi Maggie. Welcome to the board. How did you come across Japanese firebellies? They're a little more rare in the trade than chinese firebellies.

You wanna know what? After looking at some pictures, I'm probably wrong and have Chinese ones. I've always had trouble telling the difference :x

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
