Hi Everyone
i know its a bit silly saying Hi after having used the site for over a year
but i thought it may be a good idea.

Well about ourselves
I am a crazy married women with 2 children and we all love axolotls.

We have Lottie (Golden Axolotl) and 2 sisters Spike and Dilly (Leuctic)

We bought Lottie after having hunted all around Bristol with no luck.
My husband convinced a little aquatic shop to find us one and
when Lottie arrived he was about 3 inches and so cute.
About a year later I saw a post on here for 2 males
(we know different now lol)
that needed rehoming after a few weeks of stress and deliberation.
My husband said we could give them a home.
But when we collected them we thought it was a bit strange
they were noticable a different shape
(Lottie being so we developed)
We laughed how if they were boys
they may get an inferiority complex.

Well within half an hour of being in the tank
together Lottie had mated with Dilly and
24 hours later the tank began to fill with eggs.
As we didn't have the facilities to keep tham we put them onto ebay advising everyone if they had any questions to come here
as it this site is a godsend.
Many many happy people are now raising their offspring
and most recently Lottie and has been alternatively
breeding over the last 4 months with each girl
so to give them a rest Lottie is in a tank on his own for a while.
It is really nice to see so many people with their offspring
have taken our advice and are on here now.

Thanks for reading my essay ha ha

All the Best

Welcome to the site Becca! I'm in Bristol too. I don't keep axolotls but I do have quite a few newts.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
