Hello everyone,

I just recently joined these forums after goofing around on google. I saw a picture of an Axolotl and immediately became interested in wanting one. ^^; I've read a bit about them, and do plan on trying to get one in the near future when I feel I know enough to take care of one. Until then I'll continue to read and understand these little creatures better. :)

Glad to have you! And good for you to do research before getting your new animal. I am sure you will learn all you need about axolotl husbandry here. Please feel free to ask questions.

Welcome aboard! I just joined today myself. I'm here to learn, too, before getting axies for the first time.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
