Axolotl Hiccups

Hey guys,

After eating a worm or pellet or anything for that matter, my two baby axis seem to get the hiccups. Is that the normal? are they just getting there food down?

At first i thought it was cute as, but now I'm like a stressed parent with a new born... do all axis do this?

My adult male eats that way, too, particularly worms. It's kind of like he's tring to position the worm or pellet correctly in his gullet. Looks kind of distressing but I think maybe it's normal..? I tried giving him much smaller worms and that helped, but he still "hiccups" his food down. My adult female used to do it, too, but finally stopped.

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
