Has anyone any experience of this, I have just watched one of my new babies (they're about 3" long) vomit up several chunks of worm that it ate earlier (sorry to be so graphic) is this normal if they gorge themselves or may he have some sort of stomach infection?

Hi Ali,

Whilst gross it is quite normal.

good luck

Thank you
I was concerned that the worm chunks were to big (about the length that it's head is wide... if that makes sense)

Thanks for putting my mind at rest

Hello ail000,

It could be because your axolotls have ingested all that they can into their tiny stomach :p

Or it could be because the temperature is too low (which is nothing to worry about) and thus slowed down their metabolism. Slowing down the metabolism has in turn reduced the process of digestion and to prevent the food from spoiling inside the stomach, your axolotl has regurgitated the worms...lovely!

Jay.

Thanks Jay
the tank temp is about 18c, so I guess they were just full up  greedy beggars

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
