So yesterday morning I was giving my t. gran a salt bath and left for school, forgetting I didn't put him back in. A couple hours later my sister found him in the kitchen and put him back in the tank. He didn't eat, but I guess that could have just been because he was stressed. He looks fine now. My question is what kind of damage could the salt bath have done to his skin if he was in there too long? Should I continue giving him salt baths? I orginally started giving him salt baths because I saw an abnormal white spot on him that I thought was fungus. It's gone now, but I'm not sure if what caused it is gone. This is because I had noticed a white spot on him before, but it disappeared. They come and go. Anyways, could someone help me?

Wow, you're lucky. Not sure if I would name this an 'escape' though. I'd let the T. gran recover for a couple of days and see what the spot is doing. Prolonged salt baths are very bad for a newts skin, so you can only hope it hopped out quickly.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
