Axolotl Breeding.

I have a leucistic girl, called Sammy and a golden albino boy called Maurice (some people call me the space cowboy...) :wacko:

They are yet to stay permanently in the same tank, both are in seperate ones. I am just wondering, because I am going away for two weeks quite soon, should I keep them in seperate tanks until I get back...?

Will they mate and lay eggs all in just two weeks..? Sammy is very lonely and likes seeing Maurice for a few minutes each day- I watch them in the tank to make sure they don't fight. He seems to follow her around but they are yet to mate.

If you are confused about what I have said: I am saying that they ARE kept in seperate tanks, but sometimes I will put Sammy into Maurice's tank (his tank is much larger and is able to accommodate three axolotls) so they can see each other. I always watch them to make sure they do not mate just yet, then I return Sammy to her tank. Neither of them appear to be stressed by this

It only takes a day for them to mate and lay eggs.

Yes I think you should keep them seperate until you return.

An axolotl can go without food for two weeks while you are away with no problems and if kept in individual enclosures all will be fine, but keeping them TOGETHER with no food for two weeks is dangerous as they could start to take bites out of one another's limbs, tail, gills, etc.

With any mature axolotls of the opposite sex being together you always run the risk of becoming a grandmother but it depends on a variety of elements if they will spawn.

I would leave them in separate tanks while you are away.
