Hi everyone. My name is Stacie and I am a new veterinarian in Southern California. I just moved back here after 4 years of vet school in NY. I found this forum while trying to research help with my own pet albino axolotl. I also have a tiger salamander. So far this forum seems to have a lot of great information!

Welcome to the forum, Stacie. It's always good to have another vet around. Congratulations on finishing school.

Best wishes,

-John

Clarification: I am not a vet, but there are vets here.

Welcome, Stacie, we certainly welcome any and all comments from a veterinary point of view.

As a vet, were you able to obtain some kind of permit for keeping Ambystoma in California?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
