Don't get me wrong, I know quite a bit about the Axolotl, but I would like some help from real owners, and your opinions on maily your recomendations or; food, types of decoration, subtrate, and water level. Also, can they live alone? And how long can one live alone for? Or are they just fine alone?

Hello Michael,

The axoltol website www.axoltol.org is always a good place to start. You will find the answers to all of your questions discussed in great detail by owners in the various sections of the axolotl fora (http://www.caudata.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=48 which you have obviously already found). It's best just to read through the various threads there.

The caudata.org site also includes many helpful articles http://www.caudata.org/cc/articles/articles.shtml
and caresheets
http://www.caudata.org/cc/species/caresheets.shtml

In any case, welcome to the Forum!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
