Hi there,

My axies have laid their first batch of eggs (which have hatched now)however the parents have just laid more eggs. Is there any way to stop them from reproducing (i.e water temp control) or is seperating them the only answer?

I really want to keep them together as they seem to get on well and its nice for them to have some company....any ideas? I've looked around but can't find anything.

Cheers

Sara

I had to seperate my two as the female laid eggs twice with in a month and she was still under a year old. They where seperated in one tank and this was far from ideal. As I am very short on space I thought it best to rehome the female with someone with only females..........there was a hiccup and one ended up being male and she laid a third time with in weeks. I am now resigned to keeping males together.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
