I am new at keeping an axolotyl..Still have problems in the spelling LOL. My daughter was given one about a month or so ago. This poor thing had been in a small goldfish bowl for two years. She is now in a 75 gallon aquarium. My question is this. She just wont eat. She moves around has gone the full lenth of tank. Her feathers (gills) move about 4 times per minute. I have offered her crickets, mealworms, and pellets. She was eating live bloodworms but not now. She looks 100 percent better than when she was in bowl. Am I doing something wrong? Please help me

Have to tried a live earth worm? How long has she been in the new tank? How long has the tank been set up? Is she on sand or gravel? Sorry for all the questions but these will help us figure it for you.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
