How long are Axotlotls normally, when they mature enough to be able to breed?

Thanks! ;)

Mine are about 15 - 20cm and they lay eggs, i'm not sure exactly but i have been told when the tips of there toes go black it means they are active?

How old would your one that's approx 15cm long be?

Adult axolotls can be any size from 7-14 inches. They reach their full size 'at about' 18 months of age and will grow at different rates.

It's advisable to wait until the female is 18 months old before deliberately trying to breed from her as laying the eggs can put a strain on her body as axies will spawn and lay continually.

With axolotls maturing at 6 months though accidents do happen.

The toes will darken on a pale axolotl and lighten on a dark axolotl indicating maturity.

No idea, i got them 2 weeks ago and that same day she laid eggs so i would guess she is young enough to breed but not old enough to be lazy, if that makes sense.

I like to think around 1 year old:D

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
