I am Autumn and I live in the USA. I am about to get my first axolotl.
My dad and I found this site after we found a tank of axolotls at a pet store, but my dad didn't want his fishes to get eaten so I'm paying for a tank and everything (besides the filter) I don't mind. I'll be getting the axie soon, maybe in a day or so. My dad is is a chemist so he knows about the water stuff, because I'm only 13 and I don't get about half that stuff. But I first heard of axolotls when I found out that Dr. Shrunk from Animal Crossing: Wild World was one. I never really liked then enough to really want one until I saw them in real-life.

Hey Autumn, welcome to the site! It's great that you're researching and preparing before getting your axolotl, it'll make everything so much easier! Be prepared, there are a ton of axolotl enthusiasts here!;)

P.s.- Dr. Shrunk is pretty awesome.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
