How exactly do i clean my sand before using it?
We have got sand from the beach,
the same that gets put in playgrounds.
But i wanna clean it doubley before we use it for my axolotl.
So, what do i do to make sure its clean?

Oh wow, from the beach....
if dogs and other critters have access I would actually
boil it beforehand, because it can have all kind of stuff in it...
is it a saltwater ocean beach (vs a freshwater lake beach)?
Then you have to soak it OFTEN to get the salt out.
But you have to wash and soak it often anyway, because
of all the small floating particles....
I bought 3kg of red sand from the pet store and
spend ONE HOUR at the tap washing the sand.
You basically flush water in there, mix it,
and then get the water and the dust out,
and repeat this until the water stays clear.
This can take AGES...

But, anyway, good luck and fun!
:D

Sounds exciting.
:D
Maybe you should post some pics of the action...
(I am serious, after I dont come from a place near the sea...)
Good luck and success with the washing!

Ahahahahahha.
Me and sand and digging is a hilarious combination.
I'll defo try and take some. or get my mum to, while she's with me
We wont get any beach shots coz like, you know
Beach here

Dunes here.

Haha

Even sand from a sand dune will be full of one deadly component that can't be washed or boiled out, really- Salt. Honestly, I would buy play sand, and thoroughly wash that before adding it to your tank.

That's my belief, anyway- Do correct me if I'm wrong, though.

With enough water and time, you can get all the salt out easily. Remember, the salt came from the water, and will dissolve easily.

You have to wash the sand anyway 1000times to get the dust out,
so I dont think the salt will be any problem.

How did it go anyway?

This is sand from like.. the middle/far end of the dunes,
about 20kms from anywhere near the beach sand.

It's the same sand that's taken for play sand,
so yea.
We've washed it,
gonna wash it again tomorrow.

LOL SAND WENT EVERYWHERE.

How long can my axolotl last out of my tank?
I'm gonna be letting the sand settle.

If you've got them in temporary holding, as long as you do appropriate water changes (daily or every other day), they can last indefinitely.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
