This was my overseas friend's reaction when seeing a photo of my axolotl (she is 15)
I thought it was really funny

"......."quote Pat says:
OMG I LOVE IT

IT HAS CORAL OUT OF ITS HEAD!

:D
When I brought my axolotls home and presented them
very proudly to my flatmates, they just asked me:
"What is THAT? What kind of fish?"
:D
And several of my online friends told me:
"Oh my god, I never have seen something like that"
or
"Interesting looking....things. Cute in a strange kind of way."
:D
People react a bit strange sometimes....

My brother-in-law says it looks like Predator mated with a frog.

My 3 year old niece saw them and goes " oh! baby dinosaurs!" lol

My mother screams every time she goes near them,
she thinks they look prehistorical
:errr::eek:

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
