A while back I came to one of my Axie's tank one morning and it looked like the tank had frozen over. It hadn't, but there was a layer of 'scum'.

I skimmed it off by slowly filling a cup. It's a lot of white 'fibres'.

Has anyone seen it before? I skim it off every couple of days but it always comes back. First it just looks rainbow-y like when oil is spilt. But then overnight it'll have turned into the layer of what looked like ice.

I've attached a photo.

It doesn't seem to affect Steve my Axie in the slightest. But it doesn't make me feel at ease!

Ah lovely thank you. I'll carry on in that case. And maybe look into a spray bar to aggitate the surface slightly.

Thanks

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
