I'm in Pittsburgh, PA. Don't have any newts or salamanders, just lizards, fish, a dog, and a bin of worms :) Saw a forward from my dog group with included a Axolotl and reminded me of the one I saw years ago as a kid and decided to do some research on them!

Welcome! Our forum also has a live food section, which includes discussions of worm bins. Hope you feel right at home;)

Don't know if I'll get one yet...probably won't be for awhile since I like my fish and I have no space for another tank! :) But I like to read up on creatures I don't know much about! I just remember having seen one in the past and wondered what it was! Thanks for the heads up! axolotl.org was how I found this forum! I didn't see where you could buy them though. I have not seen them for sale since I saw the one when I was a kid!

There are plenty in the For Sale section on the forum. Sometimes, people will even give them away for free.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
