Question: Feeder fish

I thought that I would buy my axies a treat and got them a couple of guppies. I have quarrintined the guppies for over a month and they seem to be in good health. I have started to put a couple in with the axies at a time and the axies seem to REALLY love them.

I am wondering, can I just feed them feeder fish all the time or do they need to have something else as well?

Hi Kira,

Would definately feed them something else as well. Feeder fish rate pretty poorly as a staple diet.

As you obviously have no qualms feeding live food to your hungry axolotls :happy: the most ideal food package with all the nutrional needs for an axolotl is lovely, wriggly earthworms: http://www.caudata.org/cc/articles/worms.shtml

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
