I have successfully fed one of my triturus dobrogicus(danube crested newts) out of the three some reptomin food pellets. My ambystoma laterale(blue spotted salamander) readily eats reptomin as well. My ambysoma tigrinum eats pelleted foods too but likes worms better. My other two triturus dobrogicus dont see pellets as a food source. Just wondering if other people have experemented with pellets, trout chow, fish food, ect.

I used to feed my C.orientalis "HBH newt and salamander bites" on a regular basis, now he isn't as aquatic, so I began feeding him more nutritious food items such as worm pieces, waxworms, crickets, etc.

If your newts will take them, I'd feed them the pellets on occasion, but still keep variety; I hear the trout pellets are pretty good.

The main problem with pellets is shelf life. When they are fresh, they are nutritionally good, but vitamins deteriorate over time. Sadly, most pet products don't give you an expiration date, and they could sit on the shelf at the pet store for a long time even before you buy them.

The only pellet food I've had much luck with are the Rangen salmon pellets they sell at AGSC:

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
