"Wild" cockroaches could carry communicable parasites and bacteria. Aside from that, captive-bred cockroaches are one of the best foods for amphibians and reptiles that you can find.

I agree with John, any cockroach you find will carry diseases and even traces of insectiside that can be harmful on consumption to your 'lotl.

I know this is an old thread but I was wondering the same as the OP I have access to a number of large glasshouse's (for plants) which have literally thousands of cockroaches (warm moist, all the dead and rotting vegetation they could ever wan't) I know that they have never used any kind of pesticide and leave them be as they cause no damage to any of the vegetation would these be okay to feed to axolotls? or would they still carry disease/parasites?

Thanks;)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
