I have been lurking around here for awhile and thought I would say Hi ;) I have one Axolotl named Nessie. She is a cutie!! I purchased her at a reptile expo in PA back in March..and she has grown!! She needs a tank upgrade soon. I am shopping around for a bigger tank and will have one shortly. I have some pictures of her that I will post for everyone later

A terrible welcome to the forum, but are you aware that axolotls are illegal to own in New Jersey?

No, I wasn't aware of that and it comes as no surprise. Everything is illegal in Jersey. It is getting ridiculous. How about Florida? Are they illegal there? I am moving there next year if everything goes smoothly. It's not like I can return it or want too. Thanks for the welcome though.

Welcome, Nessie. They aren't illegal in Florida, but it's hard to keep them due to the heat. Good luck, and hope you enjoy the forum:happy:

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
