Hi all. My name is Katie and I've been looking into getting an Axolotl for my husband. He's really into them and is allergic to everything with fur.

I was wondering if anyone had any feed back on purchasing one from WARDSCI? I still have to check my local pet stores to see if I can get one there. I'm concerned about having a live animal shipped.. anyone have any ideas or feedback?

Thanks

Wards is pretty hit or miss with animals. If you're patient, axolotls tend to breed toward the end of the winter. There are usually tons available for sale here. Just be sure you're not in one of the states that forbids axolotls (New Jersey and California).

Shipping live animals isn't a problem. Practically everyone who breeds them ships them.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
