It's very hard to tell from a top view, a side view is needed really, unless it's a VERY well endowed male!

Thanks, I will try to get a side view today and post the picture.

I hope these pictures help,
I also have one when he was going up for a gulp of air,
I have underneath him from this pic but it's bad quality.
Do you want this pic?

I'd say you definitely have a Leona on your hands, given it's old enough to sex. How old is it/how long have you had it?

I'm no expert but I agree with Kaysie, Leona/Leanne is a girl to me too!

I've had her for about 2 months.
She is about 18 months old.
I was pretty sure she was a she too but the guy i bought it off said it was a
male so i took his word.
I'm going to see if my parents will let me get a wild axolotl male now.
I hope to get an olive one.
I'm going to try and breed them.
I have good breeding options because I already have Leona and i also have Lizzy and Jess.
If i get the olive one then i will have; olive, gold albino, white albino and brown.
Thanks for answering it helped me out alot.

Can someone help with the name now?
Should it be Leanne or Leona?
Thanks.

I knew a girl named Leona. Didn't like her much. lol.

She's yours, you can name her anything you'd like. She won't mind; she doesn't have ears. They don't come when called anyway.

I think I'm going to call her Leanne.
I think it sounds like a better name.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
