Do you have to prepare them in anyway or can just just give them to your axie whole?

Hi Moomin,

Mealworms should only be a very occasional treat as they are hard to digest and nutritionally deficient.

The mealworm must be decapitated before feeding to an axie as it has strong mandibles capable of chewing through an axies internals.

You can just drown the worm first, too. Put it into water for a couple of minutes until it stops moving before you feed it.

If you drown it can you feed it whole?

Certainly.

Just don't drown them a day before or anything, but right as you want to feed them. We don't want to feed any rotten food. ;)

I usually just cut their heads off. Better fresh! They shouldn't be a staple diet though. I feed them axolotl pellets and blackworms:D

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
