Hi everyone,

My name is Vikki. I have had my axolotl, Archamedies for about 10 months now he is about 7 or 8 inches long. I came to this forum because I have been considering getting him a friend for some time and my local pet shop has just informed me that he is getting some 4 or 5 inch ones in tomorrow so I came to the site for advice and to find out how to sex archie... I think he is a male. Seems like a nice friendly site with lots of knowledgable people :)

Vikki

Hi there! I just joined here and got my Axolotls yesterday! I think I have a pair (1 male, 1 female) but am also slightly unsure. My axi's are about 6 inches long if that! I'm glad to hear of someone local (I'm just over the Pennines in Bradford) that is doing well with an axi!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
