Yesturday while I was crusing th internet for salamander information, I discovered something pretty cool. About an hour and a half from my house is a lake called axolotl lake. Obviously they mean tiger salamander larva but they wouldn't name it that if there wasn't salamanders there (I think). Anyway I just thought ithttp://fwp.mt.gov/fishing/guide/q_Axolotl_Lake__1118711452264.aspx was cool.

That is so funny. I discovered that once, too - I am so curious as to how the lake got that name! How cool that you live so close. Is it shaped like an axolotl? haha

I have the same link for it. Really funny that a fishing guide has an axolotl lake, considering that the one would actually rule out the other.

I ran into an article about this once too. Apparently, it is a lake out in MT that contains a relatively high population of neotenic tiger salamanders. I'm pretty sure the name "axolotl lake" refers to the neotenic "axolotl" tiger salamanders living in it.

Here's the link that I found earlier, it has a photo accompanying the article- http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.blm.gov/pgdata/etc/medialib/blm/mt/blm_information/steward/08spring.Par.87774.Image.-1.-1.1.gif&imgrefurl=http://www.blm.gov/mt/st/en/info/newsroom/steward/08spring/axololt.html&usg=__JXjbS_5Qkshn7KZwihprNz_NzcI=&h=601&w=483&sz=35&hl=en&start=9&tbnid=MrHv_8uVms6NFM:&tbnh=135&tbnw=108&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dwild%2Baxolotl%26gbv%3D2%26hl%3Den%26 sa%3DG

That would depend on where the lake is located.

I'd like to go visit axolotl_lake, it must be a nice place with a name like that.
