What is the reason for indecision?

at the moment i have pebbles and there a nightmare for keeping clean!!!

and from what i can tell sand is alot easier especially when feeding bloodworm

just wondered whether it was fine enough for axi's???

HI Orangebud,

You can choose to keep your tank bare bottomed if you want to make it easier to clean. If you want to choose a substrate, sand is the only suitable option. Gravel and even pebbles, especially if small enough to be ingested, can cause impaction and death.

Cheers

I had the that back sand in one of my tanks for a little bit. I did not like it because it was hard to see poo in order to clean it up. The maker of the black sand also makes the color moon light sand white. I have that now and love it. Vary easy to see the poo and easy to clean.

"Gravel" is ok as long as it is no more than 3mm wide - I believe it is listed as "1-3 mm" on the packaging.

Of course that only applies for adult axolotls. If you have youngsters, this gravel would also pose a threat.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
