Just thought I would drop in an introduce myself. My name is Steve, I'm from Northern Indiana. I have a strong interest in Herpetology but I am not all too well versed in Caudates. I'm currently in college pursuing Veterinary Medicine. I am enrolled in a graduate level Herpetology class and the professors specialty is within the realm of Caudata.

I personally don't keep any salamanders or newts but am looking forward to aquiring Mudpuppies in the near future.

During spring break, (after this week) we are traveling to an undisclosed location and performing some Hellbender surveys.

I look forward to learning from advanced members and absorbing information along the way. I will be sure to post pictures from our Hellbender adventure.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
